Pastor David Phillips - Acts 1:12 - 14
How Can God take ordinary people and use them in a profound way?
How did they get to a place where God could literally flow through them?
What they did to position themselves so that the supernatural ministry of the Holy Spirit could go through them to carry the gospel everywhere
Lord, do I have the right desire or passion that I ought to have?
vs. 12
join together in prayer
In ministry, it doesnt matter if you have alot in terms of technology or finances, the Holy Spirit superceeds them all.
1. The disiples were totally committed to God's plan.
Luke 24:49
wait until I do something in you
Acts 1:4,12
When God is working in our lives, He doesn't tell us everything thats going to happen in our future. He gradually shows us His will as we obey Him. (The hang-up for most Christians)
This is where God starts with us
Speaks to our hearts
presses upon us to spend more time with Him
Seekin grelationship with us
THE beginning of ALL ministry
John 15:4
We've Got to spend time with Him (prayer)
(Are we living obediently OR conveniently?)
1John 3:21,22
Answered prayer = doing what we know the will of God is
God is calling us to a deeper level of devotion, commitment
Am I doing the things that require the least amount of effort?
2. The disciples were in community with God's people
Acts 1:12,14 (Luke 8:2), Mark 15:40
waiting in the presence of God for a unity of spirit
homothumadon - same temperature, same passion
they all wanted a moving of God
("Lord, whatever it is You want to do in this place, that is what we want!")
Hunger, thirst, desire for God to move
Jesus was moved with compassion because He saw them as a sheep without a sheperd (we need to do the same)
Want what God has for you
3. They were consitent to pray for God's power
Acts 1:14
constantly - it'sall they know, all they do
not one day on the next day off
2:42, 6:4,
Eph. 6:18, Col. 4:2, Phil. 4:6, 1Thess. 5:17
How can God take a group of people who have done nothing signifiant in theoir lives, put them in a position where they are filled with the Holy Spirit, and then send them out to change the world. (points 1 - 3)
What is the priority of my life?
Pastor Kirby John Caldwell - There are two great moments in a persons life, the moment you were born and the moment you realize why you were born.
Want these three things more than anything
Lord, I lay myself on the altar. There has got to be more. I don't really know what the purpose of my life is. Use me in a profound way, empower me with Your Spirit. I want to be open, yieled to You.
